As the graphic design community is painfully aware, Squarespace recently released their web-based logo creation tool. The tool enables users to create minimal logo designs for small business using a combination of free fonts and icons from The Noun Project. This enraged many in the design community and sparked lots of interesting conversations. I've attempted to recreate a few of the great, iconic logo designs of our culture using the tool.
Coca Cola
FedEx
HP
McDonalds
Starbucks
As you can see from these examples, the results are somewhat lacking. Now, while I'll admit that the Squarespace logo generator can be a great tool for a small business with no resources or design connections, my hope is that this tool will be used merely as a temporary crutch.

When business begins picking up, recruit a trained designer to research, brand and give your company a real voice. Only a living, breathing and trained designer will be able to properly research your branding problem and innovate a solution with creativity and originality.
